  1. Hi. The mine was dug around 1530 to gain so-called Alum (used for tanning leather). The beginning of the industrialisation made it somehow redundant and it was closed around 1850.
    The almost forgotten mine was then rediscoverd in 1910. In 1913 the famous dripstone environment in the so-called 3rd layer was (re)discovered and it's beauty henceforth used to elate tourists.

    Hope I was able to give you some more background information.
